Interim

Life has been lemony suck the last few months, but circumstances are improving once more. Closure, stability… an emotional clean slate may be within reach.

Still not game to get back on the bike, but I think this is the.week for it. I won’t be riding to work any time soon, but you know… baby steps.

Watch this space.

Grazes Gone Gross

I had another little injury on the Wednesday of last week which turned into a somewhat bigger injury on Friday afternoon.

I’d caught a rather nasty graze from some concrete in another incident along Kingsford Smith Drive on the Wednesday, which come Friday had started to turn red and hurt lots and lots. I ended up seeing the same doctor I’d seen after I had my last accident, and he wasn’t impressed at all that I’d managed to damage myself again. Nevertheless he patched me up and sent me on my way with a prescription for antibiotics and a rather expensive bandage.

This put a damper on the weekend, which ended up pretty tame overall. I didn’t much feel like going anywhere because every time I moved the wrong way my leg would flare up angrily and make all kinds of pain happen.

So I bought some computer bits, replaced my keyboard on warranty, ate ice cream, and played computer games with Jeremy for hours on end.

It wasn’t bad, but I am highly disappointed with myself and really just want to get better so I can feel reasonable, and get on with life. Until then I reserve the right to be grumpy and complain, which should be noted, I generally tend to do anyway.

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Experience

Tonight I go to bed feeling gutted. Trying to work with my new “Logitech Illuminated Keyboard” left me with a frustration deep in the pit of my stomach, and a desire to search the Internet to find a replacement.

While the Logitech support team were cordially helpful, I have decided I never want to buy from the company again. The last two keyboards I have bought from them have been utter crap, and I can’t think of any reason I’d want to throw away any more money on them. I’m supposed to take this keyboard back to Umart for a warranty thing, but it is difficult to find the time to visit them when they keep much the same hours as I do. Until then my computer is nearly unusable without a space bar.

My phone has also started to lose the allure of the new toy. In addition to dropping off the cell network sporadically, today it became unbelievably slow for apparently no reason, and tonight the screen has been randomly flickering to life when it should be asleep. Even a restart hasn’t fixed the problems, but I am so far beyond caring about these things any more. I am resigned to the fact that I am simply not allowed to have nice things and that it’s unreasonable to expect expensive gadgets to work any better than cheap shit.

Right now I am in bed blogging on my phone, because trying to do so on my PC is so unapppealing I strongly suspect it would bring tears of frustration. It already has once tonight, and tomorrow I am highly likely to do something rash.

Faceplant

So I had a big dumb accident on my bike yesterday, and it was bad enough to get me today off work and a CT scan. I don’t even remember that much of what happened, but I was pretty shaken up about it yesterday and not really in a good state.

The very last thing I remember was signalling to the truck that had pulled up behind me at the lights to go first. It was a very narrow and dangerous stretch of Kingsford Smith Drive, so having a big truck trying to overtake me (and he would have tried) was right up there on the “do not want” list.

After that, the next thing I remember was taking to a whole bunch of people out in the back room of a service station not fifty metres from the lights. They had picked me up off the road and brought me inside, and for that I’m incredibly grateful. It was a pretty harrowing experience, and I have no idea what really happened but they were great people and eventually got hold of my poor frantic mother who who took me to see the doctor.

The verdict was concussion, a tetanus shot, and bandages all up my right hand side. Somehow I managed to fall onto the road side and come out of it with minimal lasting damage, which was was very lucky.

Now I’m waiting to see the doctor for the second time in two days. He wants to look at pictures of my brain, which I’m sure will be all kinds of fun. I’ve been told to take the day off work and not to cycle again for a week, which kinda sucks but will give me chance to put the bike in for a service and make sure there’s nothing wrong with it either.

I haven’t had much luck cycling to work, and I especially don’t like Kingsford Smith Drive, but I enjoy the method of travel. They’re in the middle of upgrading road to add cycle lanes, but it’s likely to be quite while away from completion. Until then I guess it’s going to be a shitty experience for everyone, and I’m not really sure what to do.

Disappointed Consumer Makes Internet Threats

Called up Mobicity this morning to find out where my phone is, and with no apology I was told it was being shipped in from somewhere and it “should” arrive on Monday. I asked why I was told it was in stock and that it would be a two day wait, and once more I was told that they were experiencing high demand for this particular phone.

I’ll get an email when I can come and pick it up. Probably.

That’s fine, you know. I’m happy to accept reasonable excuses and possibly even an apology for the stress and lost love, but the thing that really grates my groin is that I have to go hunting down answers as to why I’m still waiting to receive the nearly thousand dollars worth of luxury toy I paid for and expected to receive at the beginning of the week. I’ve said it before, but if it doesn’t arrive on Monday I’m cancelling the order and going elsewhere, because as much as I want this device, I’d much rather get it from somewhere trustworthy.

Trustworthy like Telstra.

I’m not being unreasonable in this, am I?
