Awoke by a Little Friend

I woke up this morning with a start because there was a spider crawling on my shoulder. Not a big one but a little fat one, like a money spider or something.

I sat bolt upright, shuddered, and started furiously slapping myself trying to get rid of the nasty creature, but it was nowhere to be found. I contorted trying to see what was on my back, and finding nothing, inspected the sheets, pillows… Nothing.

I laid back down because it was some obscene hour of the morning and I wanted to go back to sleep, and there it was again; a light tickling sensation on the back of my neck.

Panic!

I stood up, slapping my back furiously once more, but the tickling stopped, and the mirror didn’t show anything out of the ordinary other than a slightly red hand print. After flustering over the absent spider, I decided it was time to get up anyway, and made myself breakfast.

At this point I don’t know if the spider was real or in my head, but there was definitely something tickly on the back of my neck and I could swear in my dreamy stupor that I saw a tiny weeny arachnid out of the corner of my eye. Either way it’s as unpleasant a way to wake up as being pestered in the face by a blowfly, or having jackhammers go off endlessly on the construction site across the road.
