The Travellers Return (For Now)

A good buddy of mine recently expressed disdain for certain parties befriending him on Facebook. It’s a brave new world, this social media thing, and the rules of real life don’t apply.

So I’ve blocked my family. Sticky situation, for sure, but necessary for my continued well-being and mental soundness. I used the Facebook privacy features to remove my blog posts from their interested if somewhat invasive view, and now I can relax and sleep soundly in the knowing that if any one of my family members wants to be offended by something I’ve got to say, they can damn well type in my blog address and make it worth their while.

In other somewhat related news, my parents arrived back from their weekend away at Kilkivan (which you would be able to read about on their blog if Dad wasn’t such a blog slacker.) I wasn’t expecting them until the afternoon so they kind of surprised me when they turned up at half past eleven and I still hadn’t tidied the place up from bachelor mode (Think: dishes, towels, clothes, mess extravaganza!)

I had enough time to metaphorically hide everything under my bed to make the place look tidy, but I would have liked to have vacuumed, but these are #firstworldproblems.

My parents whirled in and made their presence known, and shortly afterward things started to get shitty. It’s like their going away is a drug, and their coming back is some kind of downer (with fast Internet and running water, but I digress.) There was all kinds of drama and as much as I’d rather not be a part of it, I pretty much am, so I spent the afternoon trying my best to be zen mediator extraordinaire. Life is so daft.

I spent the night watching in this order: the end of Flash Forward (3 of 5 stars,) Doctor Who (3.75,) some shitty Doctor Who behind the scenes thing that I skipped over on the DVD version (1.5 stars,) the tail end of Nurse Jackie (3.5 stars,) and the second half of No Heroics (5 stars, you see I have a fetish for superpowered Spaniards in leather.)

Tomorrow I’m hopefully getting some serious business stuff sorted out. I’ve decided my new site can go live the way it is, and I’ll add the rest as I go. I’ve spent far too long trying to get it perfect, and I’m never going to get it finished how I want it because I can’t help my stupid self. So I’ve stripped some bits out, and when I can work out why Internet Explorer 8 is fucking up, i’ll put it live and I can follow up on some other projects I’ve been putting off.

I also think I’m going to go for a ride tomorrow.
