On Monday, Jeremy decided it would be best if we caught up for lunch at Redcliffe. I’m not sure why one decides that kind of thing would be best, but he did nevertheless and I agreed with him, so after a frantic episode of jeans in the clothes drier I flustered my way into the car and drove to the one and only shopping complex in the area.
The name escapes me. I’m thinking Pacific Fair, but that’s on the Gold Coast. It had an exceedingly wanky name along those lines though, and it was really a very small shopping centre.
I have memories of the place as a kid; it used to be one of two places my mum would go shopping, because when we first moved to Narangba there was essentially nothing in the area. The choice was between Strathpine and Kippa Ring, and probably Caboolture too, but nobody wants that.
So it was a little bit like walking through some kind of time vortex, except all the people looked about ten years older.
There was also Jeremy, who though a twist of fate decided we should have hot dogs for lunch from the Donut King stand outside Coles. It was a terrible idea because the hot dogs were disgusting, but they were made by a really sweet guy who seemed to be all smiles and affection and appropriate haircut and probably a little bit young for my strictest of boy sensibilities.
We ended up getting doughnuts as well, and he was all smiles and affection and consideration and you really just wanted to hug him because he was adorable. Certainly my favourite doughnut man to date.
We then ended up shoping around for Playstation Portables, as per Jeremy’s latest fixation. He provided a truly terrible rationale for needing one, but who am I to crush his dreams and say “that’s a truly terrible rationale for needing one?” I actually did say it at one point, but his mind remained unchanged so we eventually went to K-Mart and he bought a little bundle of games and things or something. I looked at DVDs while we were there and they were all way too expensive and justified my decision never to buy disc media again.
After that we headed out to the seaside and did some meandering around in loops so I could OpenStreetMap. Eventually at about a quarter to four decided it would probably be fun to battle peak hour and head home. Thankfully I was heading toward the city and avoided congestion; I never asked if Jeremy got stuck in traffic.
