Call me crazy if you will, but I don’t see a problem with an increase in vehicle registration.
There’s a petition going around to stop the Queensland Government from increasing the price, and it irritates me a little bit because it’s not like they’re doing it to spite anybody.
They’re doing it because the government’s going broke, trying to keep up with the obscene amount of traffic on the roads.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to go out and explicitly vote for a rego increase, but let’s just stop and think for a minute.
- Driving your massively pollutive car on all of these wonderful new roads that are being built is a privilege, not a right. If you don’t like paying for it, you can easily de-register your car and catch public transport like the rest of us.
- $250.00 is not a lot of money: $300 million is a lot of money, and it’s the amount being spent to clear up congestion in the CBD with the hale street link. $1.88 billion is a lot of money, spent to upgrade the Gateway Bridge and Motorway ‘cos there’s so many fuckers eating cheeseburgers and driving their empty cars to work on it.$250 is a small price to pay for continued construction & improvement of the facilities you’re so keen to drive on.
- Get a grip. Yes, this is a perfectly valid point.
It’s simply tiered pricing. If you want the convenience, luxury, and social responsibility of driving around in your SUV, don’t expect me to feel sorry for you having to pay a premium.
Complaining about it is akin to complaining about taxes. You’ll never get them revoked, and if you did, there’ll only be an even more unpleasant scheme waiting to take it’s place.

Fair points. However, I think it’s also fair that the rego price increase should scale with the size of your vehicle. Everyone is getting hit with a flat $250 increase AFAIK.
