Talk is Cheap — Doubly So, on IRC

I just can’t believe S60 — the operating system that runs on the majority of Nokia phones — is so incredibly shit.

I can’t install this application because it was “signed” over 6 months ago. I think that’s what it’s trying to tell me at least. The only solution I’ve found on the ’net so far is “wind back your clock”.

I am absolutely livid. On every phone other than this one you can disable the idiot certificate checking feature, but for some reason the 6120c disables disabling it. I don’t understand how Nokia can churn out this crap, it’s just so horribly broken.

I really need a new phone.

In other news my HTPC’s going to stop messing up now I’ve pulled out the zapped stick of RAM. It’s passed Memtest86 70% already without a hiccough, I’m willing to bet it’s going to be fine.

***AshKyd talks to himself.

Screw it, I’ll turn this IRC drama into a blog post.

This is not an S60 ‘fault’.

    • It’s a broken security model built around an ill-conceived signing method.
    • It can no longer be disabled, resulting in a degraded experience on par (in fact worse) with the complaints leveled against Vista’s UAC.
    • There’s no arguing the policy that anything older than six months can’t be installed is ridiculous.

Not only that, but my system has somehow lost its root certificates or something, so I get additional “are you sure” errors connecting to regular SSL services like Twitter.

Sounds like you need a firmware update.
