Stargate: The Ark Of Truth Review

I finally bought the final instalment of the Stargate SG-1 saga — The Ark Of Truth — which wraps up the last two seasons of the ten-season behemoth.

It was good.

I was really impressed. It’s in essence SG-1 in feature film format, with a budget of which you’d never see the like in the series. The result of this is that the film feels epic, with reasonably high calibre special effects (for a direct to DVD movie) and some truly majestic settings — especially of the Ori home world which we see very little of in the series.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the production. A little voice in my head told me I shouldn’t get my hopes up, because how could they possibly wrap up such a funky storyline in under two hours? Initially my fears grew into all-out panic as the plot jumped from place to place, with everything for the team “going right”. Fortunately for the film but unfortunately for the characters, things go very quickly pear shaped and mass into one incredibly unfortunate situation that threatens to be the end of everyone.

The film sees a return of a few niche characters, as a couple of surprising turns from older story arcs, and a number of in and not-so-in jokes which I feel detract slightly from the pace of the film. To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend seeing it if you haven’t kept up with the last one or two seasons of SG-1; but if you have, you’ll love it.
