Cleaning Out my Inbox

In other news, I fired off a volley of emails to people the other day, catching up on things I’ve been meaning to do.

  • I mailed Dell to tell them that my keyboard was faulty.

A few weeks ago my Page Up key fell out, and after pushing it back in it’s never functioned the same. I was expecting the worst, having to mail out my laptop to some service centre. Surprisingly there’s going to be a technician calling me to schedule a time (s)he can come out and install me a new one.

Way to go, Dell; That’s what I call service.

  • I mailed Internode to cancel my service.

Valiantly, they said “Good for you. We’ll refund you some part of what you just paid us, and it’s been nice doing business with you.” That’s about it really. Michelle sounds like a lovely lady.

  • I also mailed Quadra Hosting, the lovely people I pay to bring you this blog.

They’ve been sending me emails every three days to say “Look out, you’ve used 80% of your disk quota”. I emailed them to say “Big deal, this is what I’m paying to use, can you stop sending me rude messages implying I shouldn’t be?”

They pretty much said “no”, and told me to make a rule in my email clients (I have a few around the place), to delete them automatically. This really shits me, because it’s rude and disrespectful. It’s unsolicited email, I’ve asked them not to send it, and they told me to buck up.

So pooh to them, and if they weren’t so much cheaper than the competition I’d boycott them just to make a point.

I also got an interesting email from Engin, who I could swear I cancelled my account with. Apparently their system takes until the end of the month to realise I’m not actually supposed to be in their system any more, and refund parts of what I paid. I’m not complaining, but I just about hit the roof when I received the second invoice after I’d told them I wanted out.

So that’s all the exciting news in my inbox for today.

Farther off topic, tomorrow signals the second day of the start of a new era for me. To celebrate, I’ve even got the house to myself for an entire week. As is always the way, I’ve also got a booked-out schedule so I likely won’t get to enjoy it in all the disgusting ways I’d have liked to, but that’s probably for the better now that I consider it.

Tell me about it! I find myself communicating over e-mail more and more these days; especially as work has been picking up. I’m dreading cleaning out my business e-mail inbox, I haven’t bothered to categorise any of it over Christmas.

At least on my personal e-mail, I’m using procmail rules to automatically filter most of it :-)
