My new headphones finally arrived. I say finally, because I ordered them on a Friday, didn’t get confirmation until the Monday, and they arrived the Monday after. Damn you, weekends for keeping my deliveries from me.
Anyway, my first impression was “woah”. Second was “where is the bass”, and third was “these are fantastic”. Headphones always take time to get used to, and these are no exception. They’re definitely growing on me, and I’m appreciating the sound more and more as I listen to them.
They’re a very pleasant pair of headphones, though they sound and feel somewhat cheap for the price. The bass is very clinical, making even the bassiest of music seem kind of cold and shallow. They’re also made of so much plastic they make creaking noises on my head when I move. They’re slightly uncomfortable too, and seem to be squishing my earlobes.
I’m not regretting my purchase, though I’m a little disappointed after such a glowing review from so many people. I’ll give them a few days use before I decide. It’s only been a few hours so far.
I initially wrote about these several days ago, and finally bought them from headphones.com.au.

Yep, the Audio-Technica ADH-AD700 headphones really are the business. I got mine a couple of weeks back from Hi-Fi headphones in the UK and am well pleased. The detail and clarity compared to my old pair of cheap Sennheiser’s is incredible!

It’s important headphones completely isolate external noise. If they don’t it sets your brain on “alert mode” which means you never fully relax listening to the music. Of course you should be listening in an environment where you CAN totally switch off from what’s around you.

To say the truth I am surprised. Most people I know who use audiotechnica are impressed with the quality. Ok it is not sony but still. The bass might be an issue though. If I was paying so much for a pair of headphones I would want the best.
